As a lifelong seeker of truth, I first experienced Kundalini yoga in 2016 which crystallised my previous spiritual explorations and led me onto the path of becoming a Kundalini yoga teacher. I completed my Level 1 Aquarian teacher training in Kundalini yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan with the KRI certified (Kundalini Research Institute) Karam Kriya school in May 2018 (awaiting certification). I also hold a BSc (hons) in Nutritional Science and work within the functional medicine sector, and as a result I have a deep understanding of how our spiritual and emotional health effect the manifestation of dis-ease and how yogic science can stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system helping to reduce the acute stress response enabling feelings of relaxation and wellbeing.
I recently spent time at the Quinta do Rajo Ashram with my spiritual teacher Shiv Charan Singh and am a sevadar to my teacher Angad Kaur on a current Karam Kriya level 1 teacher training in London. I have also completed the “Divine Alignment- Let the heart rule” training with Simran Kaur Khalsa. The course follows a directive of Yogi Bhajans who asked Simrans husband Guru Prem Singh Khalsa to teach Kundalini yoga correctly. Guru Prem Singh Khalsa was named posture master by Yogi Bhajan.
Kundalini Yoga is an ancient art and science dealing with the transformation and expansion of consciousness, the awakening and raising of Kundalini Energy up the spine through energy centres called Chakras. The activation and balancing of the chakras is accomplished by the mixing and uniting of Prana (cosmic energy) with Apana (eliminating energy) which generates pressure to force Kundalini to rise, by means of Pranayama (breathing exercises), Bhandas (body locks), in Kriyas (exercise sets), using Asanas (postures), Mudras (gestures), and Mantras (sacred sounds). Kundalini Yoga sets also use Visualization, Projection and Focused Attention to attain specific effects. Through the practice of Kundalini Yoga, an individual can unite his/her consciousness with Cosmic Consciousness on a regular basis by carefully performing the exercises and meditations in specific sequence and combination. A student soon becomes adept at perceiving the movement of energy within and outside of his/her body, and consciously begins to direct its flow to stimulate and awaken the chakras, for healing himself/herself and others, and becomes a co-creator with universal energies.
Kundalini yoga is Not Alignment-Based. Kundalini yoga focuses less on alignment and more on the internal energy — circulation, glandular secretions, and raising the Kundalini energy. The Emphasis in class is on the individuals experience and the focus to go within during practice and keep the eyes closed. As a result, the teacher does not make any physical adjustments to students postures during class so as not to disturb the flow of energy and instructions are given by voice command with a short demonstration.
It is an honour and privilege to serve my students and deliver them to these profound and powerful teachings.
“That’s the pride of a teacher: that he has the privilege to serve another student, because somebody served him.” Yogi Bhajan.
